San Antonio, there’s still time to enter the MLK, Jr. Commission Art Contest. Here’s what you need to know.

Artists still have time to submit work to the San Antonio Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission’s art competition now that the deadline has been pushed back to Friday.

The seventh annual competition is in preparation for the 2022 March and Memorial Program Honoring MLK January 17. The selected artwork will be used in next year’s commemoration promotional material. The winner will receive two passes to all 2022 MLK, Jr. Commission events.

Winners are selected by a judging panel made up of representatives from the San Antonio MLK, Jr. Commission and other members of the community. The commission will retain ownership and full copyright of the winning work and its reproductions, according to the contest guidelines.

Art submissions should be emailed to [email protected] with the subject line “2022 MLK Poster Contest” by 5 p.m. Friday. The artwork must correspond to the commemorative theme — “Free to be…” — and must be a high quality photograph.

Artists should also include in their email a full name, contact details, age, name of school, title of their art, and medium they used, whether watercolor , infographic or other.

The website states that since King’s image, likeness and direct quotes are copyrighted, any submissions with his image, likeness or quotes will be disqualified.
